It is raining awards on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but the green-eyed Bollywood beauty seems to be holding an umbrella!
The French Government has conferred prestigious ‘Officer Dan Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres’ honour on her. But Ash has declared that she will not be able to receive the award just yet. The second highest civilian award of France is a big thing, but the move is no snub.
Ash had said to France, “Thank-you, but not now!”
She explained, “I wanted my entire family — and that includes my parents, brother, sister-in-law, my husband and his parents, sister and brother-in-law — to be there. My father has been unwell and I wanted him to be there at this important moment.”
Having given her reason, she added, “It will be a glorious moment. But not without my father!”
Incidentally, this honour has been conferred earlier on Hollywood actors Meryl Streep and Robert Redford, and Shah Rukh Khan from India. There’s only one higher French civilan honour, the Legion d’honour, which her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, filmmaker Satyajit Ray and sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar have received.
