Asin, Vidya Balan, Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bacchan, Siddharth, Madhavan- acted in regional films

In India, Bollywood celebs are worshipped as god and people spend a large amount of their income watching films. It is believed that in India, films has cricket as the only competitor in terms of popularity. Even among the films, it is the Bollywood films that are of maximum interest to the people. Thanks to modern technology, there is hardly any child in India today who hasn’t heard the name of Shahrukh Khan or Hrithik Roshan.
Even though Bollywood celebs enjoy immense popularity and fame in their niche market, they also take an interest in regional films as well. Here we chart three actors and three actresses who have acted in regional films.
Beautiful actress Aishwarya Rai after winning the coveted Miss World title, started her career in a Tamil film called Iruvar which was directed and co-written by Mani Ratnam.Later on she also dared to act in a Bengali film named ‘Chokher Bali ‘directed by Rituporno Ghosh.Even though her look in the film was a deglamorised one, in which she had to go without make-up, her performance received rave reviews.
Vidya Balan is another talented actress who debuted in a Bengali film called’Bhalo Theko’.The beautiful actress even won the ‘Best Actress’ Anand Lok Puraskar in Kolkata for her role in called’Bhalo Theko’.She is Tamilian girl and was supposed to star in a Malayam film opposite Mohanlal,but it got shelved mid-way. Later she was signed in ‘Run’ in Tamil, but got replaced by Meera Jasmine.

Vidya has expressed her desire to do regional films, provided it has a strong script and a performance oriented role.

Asin is another actress who has been successful both in Hindi as well as in Southern film industry. She made her debut in Sathyan Anthikkad’s Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka and tasted commercial success with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi.She even won a filmfare award for the best Telegu actress. She debuted in Hindi film with’Gajini’which gave her both critical and commercial appreciation.

Abhishek Bacchan has tried his hands at regional films by playing roles in Bengali films like Desh and Antarmahal.He played small roles in both of these movies, but both the masses and the critics liked him in these films.

Siddharth is another actor who has done a number of Southern films before he moved on to Bollywood films. He has done strong roles in films like Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana” and “Bommarillu”.In fact, the star thinks that he is the “Shah Rukh Khan” of the Telugu film industry.

He debuted in Bollywood in “Rang De Basanti”where he played the intense Karan Singhania.His role was liked by all and it went on to become a cult film. In his latest Hindi film Striker, the audiences saw him as a Mumbai-based carrom player.

Madhavan is another actor who has done films in seven Indian languages. His first major role was in Alaipayuthey.Later on he did films like Kannathil , Aayutha Ezhuthu etc.Even though his maiden films in Hindi was not so successful, now he has got three blockbuster Hindi films including Rang De Basanti, Guru and 3 Idiots in his kitty.
